In an effort to catch "that big one" as well "more fish" new technologies and techniques have advanced and evolved. Many of these techniques and tactics are thought fresh, copied and some say even "stolen" from the ice fisherman's fall/spring / summer "open water" fishing cousins and some even say "competitors".
To begin with and to note with caution - the first rule of ice fishing is to return home intact with your catch, or sometimes lack of catch. Safety is more than paramount.
Always remember that even though you feel safe on the ice - that in one flash you can be in the most dangerous, deadly frozen environment on earth. Ice cold water is the most deadly ...

The best time to fish is in the summer months when the lake waters are calm and the chill is not in the air. Then there are those anglers who are of the opinion that winter is the best time to fish when the lakes have frozen solid and the fish are just under the surface waiting to snap up any bait lowered into the water. Fishing is a water sport that most of America enjoys and looks forward to inventing ways of fishing just to extend the sport to a year round activity.

Although ice skating has a long history it is pretty much impossible to know exactly when and where it was born. It is known that the sport began in Europe and then the Americans adapted figure skating just before the civil war.
At this time a dancing and skating craze was sweeping America and all anyone wanted to do was put their ice skates on and have fun. It was Jackson Haines who revolutionised figure skating in America because what was once a stiff and rigid style had now become daring and exciting with his combination of skating and dancing.
Local skating clubs had been formed and competitions had been held since the middle of the 19th Century but it was a long time before figure skating became a recognised sport. However, more and more people were putting their ice skates on and the sport was becoming so popular that ...

Curling, even though being recognized as an Olympic medal sport, is still unfamiliar to many. Just what is this sport and how is played? Simply put, curling is a sport that is played on ice where players slide granite rocks down the playing field. As the rocks travel, they have will often curve, or ‘curl,' during play. This is why the sport is known as Curling. This unique sport first came into existence on the frozen ponds and lakes of Northern Europe. Ice skating has come a long way since the sport was first invented. Due to the fact that ice skates themselves have improved dramatically over the years, they are now used for a lot more purposes. Some people skate casually for pleasure, others do it as a profession, there is also ice hockey, speed skating, figure skating and much more.
Due to the increase in the number of activities that are available on the ice there has been a sudden rise in the different types of ice skates that are available. For example, a figure skater would need completely different ice skates to someone who just does it for fun because they need to do turns, jumps and other acrobatics. For this reason, if you are interested in this sport you should choose ice skates with a small heel and steel, hollow ground blades that carry on about an inch ...

When ice fishing there is no need to have a permanent ice fishing house or shanty, as an ice fishing tent is collapsible and easy enough to set up, an option that is good for most anglers. You will find that it differs to a camping tent, as there are some fishermen that just take a traditional tent even though they are not suitably constructed.
Before you decide on which is the best model to buy for your ice fishing tent, you should look at many key factors that are important. Most tents are designed to fit one to two people, while there are tents that can fit from four people up to six at the most. The tents are usually shaped traditionally or designed to be hexagonal, which makes it suitable for you to be seated circularly around the fishing holes. Once seated, it is usually ...

Take a note of the supplies you needed and used last year of the season and have them replenished early. You should have Lindy Tazers or Glo-Busters Bluelights. You should always keep in mind the 4 words and they are: Wise up, stock up.

Winter games usually revolve around things like snow and ice, but when it comes to a skating or hockey rink, fun can be had year round. To get in on the action, non pro teams will have to schedule time on the ice. These allotted sessions, known as "ice time" can be doled out a number of ways.
Determining "ice time" will depend largely on the hockey arena and their policies. For example, while some ice rinks specialize only in hokey, others may allow figure skaters time on the ice. In a rink that splits their activities this way, ice time may be divided into the particular sports or training sessions. For example, early morning hours may be dedicated to skaters with evening and afternoons going towards hockey players.

Several countries,in the frozen north, practice a style of angling that is quite a bit different than any other form of recreational fishing. Ice fishing is a slow, sometimes dangerous sport that requires the angler to have patience and the right equipment
Ice fishing started in frozen countries such as Canada and Norway, but is not limited to these locations. In fact some lakes in Alaska freeze thick enough to fish on. Like the name states, this form of angling can only occur on frozen lakes thick enough to sustain a lot of weight.
Traditionally, ice fishing equipment amounts to nothing more than a sturdy wooden pole, a long, strong piece of fishing line, hooked and baited, and a stool to sit upon for several hours. Also, some prefer to hunt with a sharpened wooden spear. Although his method is not as widely used or appreciated, the spear is another possible piece ...
